Piezo ceramic plates are thin sheets of ceramic that can be manufactured to function as a piezo actuators, piezo sensor, or piezo transducers. In actuators and transducers, when a voltage is applied, the thin layer of piezoceramic deforms and/or vibrates. A DC voltage will cause the piezo plate to deform. An AC voltage will cause it to vibrate. Conversely, if mechanical strain (vibration or pressure) is introduced to the piezo plate, it generates a current. The latter effect allows the piezo plate to function as a piezoelectric sensor.
Piezo plates typically feature an axis of polarization in the direction of the thickness, which causes the material to deform in this direction, while contracting slightly in length and width. Piezo plates are typically finished as strips and discs.
Piezo bending strips deform in the center when fixed on both ends, or only deflect on one end when the other end is fixed. Piezo discs deform the greatest in the center, forming a bowl or dome. These components made from piezo plates can be engineered as a unimorph or bimorph.
Piezo blocks can be any shape and used as a piezoelectric actuator, piezoelectric sensor, or piezoelectric transducer. These thick piezo blocks are commonly used for high power applications and generation, or ultrasonic sensory applications. High power ultrasonic scalers/cleaners are the most widely used application for blocks. The thicker the block, the more power it will generate as a cleaner.

Piezo Plates and Piezo Shear Plates: Sizes and Options
Piezo plate transducers from PI are available in different sizes and polarizations for axial, lateral and shear mode operation. Standard piezo plates come in sizes from 1x1 mm to 60x80 mm and thickness from 0.1 mm to 30 mm. Thickness tolerances on the miniature plates are as tight as 20 microns. PZT shear plate transducers are available with sizes to 25x75 mm and thickness from 0.2 mm to 10 mm.

Piezoceramic plates and blocks are available in a variety of soft PZT and hard PZT materials and can be manufactured with a choice of electrode materials and configurations.

After the nuclear tester wears protective goggles made of transparent piezoelectric ceramics, when the light radiation generated by a nuclear explosion reaches a dangerous level, the piezo electric plates in the goggles convert it into instantaneous high-voltage electricity. In 1/1000s, the light intensity can be reduced to only 1/10000, and when the dangerous light disappears, it can return to its original state. This type of goggles has a simple structure and weighs only a few tens of grams, making it very convenient to carry when installed on a nuclear protection helmet.
P is the abbreviation of lead element Pb, Z is the abbreviation of zirconium element Zr, and T is the abbreviation of titanium element Ti. (English piezoelectric ceramic transducer). PZT piezoelectric ceramics are polycrystals sintered from lead dioxide, lead zirconate and lead titanate at 1200 ℃. It has positive piezoelectric effect and negative piezoelectric effect. The piezoelectric plate from our side are normally cut from an option of three alternative standard sizes, i.e. Lateral dimensions of 40 x 20mm, 50 x 50mm, and 89 x 42mm. Still larger sizes up to 150mm lengths can be cut from discs. These are designed as per the set industry norms and guidelines.
