What is the difference between inductance and transformer?
Inductors (inductive coils) and transformers are electromagnetic induction components wound with insulated wires (such as enamelled wire, gauze wire, etc.), which are also one of the commonly used components in electronic circuits.
Inductor is a group of series coaxial turns made of enamelled wire, gauze coated wire or plastic leather wire wound on the insulating skeleton or magnetic core and iron core. It is represented by the letter "L" in the circuit.
The main function of the inductor is to isolate and filter the AC signal or form a resonant circuit with capacitors and resistors.
Transformer is a component made of the electromagnetic induction principle of inductor. In the circuit, it is represented by the letter "t" (the old standard was "B").
The transformer uses the difference of the number of turns (turns) ratio between its primary (primary) and secondary (secondary) windings to change the voltage ratio or current ratio to realize the transmission and distribution of electric energy or signal. The main functions are: reducing AC voltage, increasing AC voltage, signal coupling, transformation impedance, isolation, etc.
However, the transformer uses the magnetic field generated after the primary coil is energized to affect the secondary coil, resulting in "induced potential", that is, there is voltage on the secondary side. That is, it becomes an energy converter in use.
The argument that the inductance itself is "straight across traffic" is not comprehensive. The so-called straight across traffic is just that we use the "inductive reactance" principle of the inductor in the circuit. This is only different from the self inductance and mutual inductance of transformer in the circuit.
In short: the transformer generates voltage by mutual inductance to the secondary side through its own inductance. The inductor is restrained by its inductive reactance to produce resonance to AC, but DC is not affected by it.
The connection mode of the transformer in the circuit is parallel with the AC power supply, and the connection mode of the inductance in the circuit is generally in series with the AC circuit. Although the inductance blocks the AC, it does not completely prevent the AC from passing through. It restricts the AC through the so-called inductive reactance. For the transformer, it works as an AC load. Its effect on AC is energy conversion, not through.
